APPLICATION OF AI IN AGRICULTURE

As we know that food is one of the most basic requirements of our daily lives. Most of the food produced through Agriculture sector and have a crucial role in our daily lives. However, providing food in sufficient quantity, at an acceptable quality, at an affordable cost, then to distribute efficiently is far from simple. Several factors are threating the fulfillment of these objectives in near future. Several factors such as climate change, geographic pattern, rapid population growth rate-United Nation forecast a population of   9.7 billion people by 2050- 98% food demand is expected to be in 2050 versus 59% in 2018.

Therefore the climates change issue (increase in temperature, intense rainfall, drought etc.), increase in demand and decrease in supply of Agriculture product, reduction of land and labor resources. Indeed, the decrease in Agriculture land threatened the sustainability of food production. These may be partial due to the increases in rapid population growth rate and competition over available resources.

In such circumstance current farming practices may not fulfill the future world demand for food requirement. So, the efficient farming practices using a recent technological requirement along with AI (Artificial intelligence) could act as greatest imperatives.

Application of AI in agriculture driven with the use (adoption) of robot. The increase in consumption driven the farmer toward automation, in farming operation. As the farmer driven toward automation drone, robot, Internet of thing, latest AI technologies become integral part of farmer for better crop yield and productivity. These AI technology helps in machine learning,  predictive analytics, allows farmers to analyze real-time data of weather conditions, temperature, soil moisture, plant health, and crop prices in the market. At present AI is being used in:

– Quality and quantity of food become a growing concern to present and future world. Automated optical sorting system and hyper spectral camera helps to upgrade quality by detecting hidden defect. AI powered robot improve both quality and quantity by targeting the area more precisely i.e. Automated thinning, hoeing, weeding, spot spraying etc.

– AI in crop management encompasses the traditional method of agronomic practice. With the development of AI, it is easier to predict the right time of planting, herbicide application, fertilizer application as well as harvesting of crops. The advance sensor and recent AI tools make the entire task of crop comfortable and uncomplicated for farmer.

– Using AI system helps in soil testing with the help of remote sensing as well as through proximity sensing. These help in the soil characterization as well as soil other property based on soil beneath the surface at a particular region.

– AI in agriculture helps to detect weather pattern phenomenon with the help of satellite image. This information in turn helps to determine which crops to be produced, irrigation schedule and interval as well as prevent the disease outbreak through early warning system.

– Traditional or conventional agriculture require more labor and input cost to produce a certain amount of agricultural goods. While AI helps to reduce work load, labor and input cost by augmenting or reduce the number of labor. AI use the robot or automation technology to reduce the workload as well as input cost to produce the same amount of good as produced in conventional practice. So, AI presents a permanent solution for the unpredictable and fluctuating agricultural workforce to farmer.

– Precision farming is one of the emerging concepts involving the use of AI knowledge. In this farming system farmer were able to tract the variation exist on environment. Using the new technology such as drone, image, satellite image, sensor data and research data farmer can optimize the use of locally available input resources at a precise level i.e. suitable variety on particular area, method of sowing, amount of fertilizer, thus maximizing the productivity with preservation of natural resources.

So, ongoing innovation in the field of  AI targeting  agriculture sector enable a farmer to do more with less, optimize use of available resources, enhance quality, increased production and ensure food to sufficient quantity for present and future generation.AI helps  farmer in identifying the farming problem as well as it’s solution through the information data bank. Furthermore, it helps farmer in decision making for efficient use of resources, planning, implementing and marketing stage of agricultural crops. So, AI is one of the best alternative solutions to feed present as well as future generation in a sustainable way/manner.
